Parent Observation Guide
Most parents don't know how often their child uses AI or what they ask it. This one-week guide helps you find out — calmly, and without turning it into a fight.
1. Talk first (10 minutes)
- Ask your child to show you an AI tool they like. Be curious, not judging.
- Ask: "What's the coolest thing it helped you with?" and "Is there anything it said that felt weird?"
- Agree together that you'll check in about AI once a week.
2. Observe for 7 days
Each day, note roughly how many times your child used AI and what for. Estimates are fine.
| Day | Times used | Topics (school, homework, fun, advice, other) | Anything to follow up on? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mon | |||
| Tue | |||
| Wed | |||
| Thu | |||
| Fri | |||
| Sat | |||
| Sun |
3. Look for patterns
- Frequency: a few times a day, or many short chats?
- Purpose: learning and curiosity, or having the AI do the homework?
- Sensitive topics: health, relationships, feelings, violence, religion.
- Repeated questions: the same worry coming back can be worth a conversation.
4. Set simple family rules
- Which topics are fine, and which should we talk about together first?
- Is AI for understanding homework, or for finishing it?
- Your child can always show you a chat that confused or upset them, without getting in trouble.
Once you've observed for a week, you'll know far more than most parents. Fameelyo will do this automatically — monitoring, alerts, and your own rules — when your invitation arrives.
